What is the difference between single domain name, multi-domain name, and generic domain?

更新时间:2022-03-08  浏览次数:28416次

There are three types of "domain name" supported by the SSL certificate management service: "single domain name", "multiple domain names" and "wildcard".

Parameter Description

Parameter Description

Single domain

Only support binding one common domain name.

If you only have one domain name, please select single domain name type.

Multiple domain

Multiple different domain names can be bound, the domain name can contain multiple single domain names. If you purchase a multi-domain type certificate,  and if there are 3 domain names, it can support 3 domain names (example.com, example.cn and test.com)at the same time.

* Domain names can contain multiple single domains and multiple domains with wildcards(*) . If you purchase a multi-domain type certificate, and if there are 3 domain names, it can support 3 domain names (example.com, example.cn and test.com)at the same time.

If several domain names need to be bound to the same SSL certificate, you need to select the corresponding number of domain names.

* The number of domain names ranges from "2 to 100" and supports binding up to 250 domain names (The maximum number of domain names that can be bound varies with certificate brands).

The number of domain names must meet the following conditions:

* The number of main domain names is fixed at 1

* The number of additional single domain names ≥ 1 (the number of additional single domain names the number of additional wildcards ≥ 1)

If you have more than one domain name, select the multiple domain name type. You need to purchase the corresponding number of domain names on the purchase page according to the number of domain names.

Wildcards

* Only supports binding 1 generic domain name.

* The general format of a generic domain name has a wildcard "*" and starts with "*.", for example, *.test.com, *.example.test.com, etc.

Only same-level matching is supported, e.g. a digital certificate that binds a *.example.com wildcard domain name supports p1.example.com but not p2.p1.example.com. If you need a digital certificate for a wildcard domain name that supports p2.p1.example.com, you will also need to purchase a *.p1. example.com wildcard domain name certificate.

When purchasing a wildcard domain name certificate, you need to pay attention to the rules for matching the domain name of the wildcard domain name certificate. It can only match subdomains of the same level, and cannot match across levels. For specific examples, see Table 2.

Mismatched Domains

*.example.com

test.example.com, yun.example.com, ssl.example.com, etc

abc.test.example.comyun.test.example.comssl.test.example.com, etc

*.test.example.com

abc.test.example.comyun.test.example.comssl.test.example.com, etc

abc.example.comyun.example.com

ssl.example.com, etc

Instruction:

* In the digital certificate for wildcard domain name, only the root domain name contains the domain name itself. For example:

The wildcard domain name digital certificate of *.example.com includes example.com, and can also match domain names of the same level. There is no need to purchase a certificate to bind to example.com.

The wildcard domain name digital certificate of *.p1.example.com does not contain p1.example.com, and can only match domain names of the same level. If you need to bind p1.example.com, you need to purchase a certificate for binding.

* If the specific domain name is the third-level domain name of www, it includes the main domain name itself. For example:

The digital certificate bound to the www.example.com domain name includes example.com, so there is no need to purchase a certificate to bind example.com.

* Once your digital certificate is issued, you cannot modify the domain name information, etc.

Specific selection examples are shown in Table 3
